Something Better
It is October! This month, my mom’s debut novel comes out! Something Better is a novel in the style of Elizabeth Strout or Mary Beth Keane — domestic, thoughtful, nuanced, and written in clean, clear prose. It’s about forgiveness and marriage and I think you should read it. She has been working on it for many years (and, in fact, will be in conversation about that very process with Carolyn Kuebler at the legendary independent bookstore, RJ Julia on Monday 10/7.)
My mom and I are also going to be doing a few events together in the coming weeks. It would be wonderful to see any local readers there—and, if you do think you’ll make it, it’s a huge help to the bookstores hosting if you have a chance to RSVP (helps them know how many books to order, how much space to set up, etc.)
The first big event we’ll do together is on Tuesday, October 8 at the Westport Library. How cool to help launch my mom’s debut book from the library (although very fancily remodeled since then) where I used to comb through back issues of YM and devour the latest Baby-Sitters Club Super Special.
Then, on Thursday, October 10 we’ll be in conversation at my local bookstore, Black Rock Books. I love this store and this neighborhood.
On Thursday, October 17 we’ll be at Barrett Books in Darien.
A more complete list of her events can be found here.
You’ll be able to buy copies of Something Better at any of these events and you can also pre-order it online. You can learn more about the book, read some of my mom’s other writing and subscribe to her newsletter on her website.
